Stephanus H. Yang joined Maxey Law Offices, PLLC in 2010. Besides
client counseling, he works with many facets of safeguarding
intellectual property as a patent attorney, including the procurement of
patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. Stephanus is
registered to practice in the State of Florida as well as before the
United States Patent & Trademark Office, a distinction that less
than one percent of all U.S. attorneys can claim.
Stephanus hails from Buffalo, NY, where he earned undergraduate
degrees in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Psychology from the University at
Buffalo, The State University of New York. He relocated to the Tampa
Bay area and completed his Juris Doctor at Stetson University College of
Law. Stephanus has previously interned in-house for a privately-held
manufacturing company, weighing in on various corporate legal, human
resource, and health and safety matters.
Interest in patent law emerged late during his pharmaceutical
studies. While Stephanus always appreciated the analytical nature of
science, he searched for an opportunity to interact more with the
developmental side of science and technology; his discovery of patent
law has not disappointed. One of the things he enjoys most about his
work is the diverse mix of innovators he supports – from stay-at-home
moms to international corporations, and everything in between. When
working with clients, Stephanus sees his role as helping them establish
realistic expectations, spelling out exactly what is needed to protect a
product or idea, and putting steps in place to facilitate any necessary
licensing, research, patent procurement, or maintenance, to ultimately
protect the clients’ intellectual property.
During his undergraduate studies, Stephanus was named a College
of Arts & Sciences Merit Scholar, and later during law school, was
the recipient of the William F. Blews Pro Bono Service Award.
