As reported July 19, 2010 by the Wall Street Journal, after only three months of being implemented, the United States Patent and Trademark Office abolished a new trademark category for medical marijuana. The now abolished medical marijuana category was created on April 1, 2010 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Peter Pappas, a spokesman for the United States Patent and Trademark Office, said the office's lawyers were "aware" of the category
weeks ago. "It raises examination issues," Mr. Pappas said. "It was a
mistake and we have removed it."
