Stephen Lewellyn joined Maxey Law Offices, PLLC in 2008 and is a patent
agent with a practice focusing on U.S. and International Intellectual Property
counseling including patent prosecution and procurement and assistance with
litigation matters. In addition to preparing and prosecuting patent
applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Stephen handles complex
prosecution matters including foreign patent prosecution, reexamination
proceedings, and appeals before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences.
Stephen counsels emerging companies in identifying valuable
intellectual property, establishing invention disclosure policies, strategic patent
procurement and patent portfolio management. Stephen brings experience in the mechanical
arts, electrical arts and business method and computer arts. With almost 10
years of practical experience, he has prepared and prosecuted numerous patent
applications across a breadth of technologies including oil and gas drilling,
logging and completion equipment, vehicle control systems, medical devices, various
consumer products, firearms, vehicle control systems, combustion engines, agricultural
equipment, excavation equipment, sporting equipment, games and other areas.
Stephen, who first relocated to the Clearwater area from
Maine, became attracted to the field of patent law and its direct tie to
science and technology while attending the University of South Florida’s
College of Engineering program, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical
Engineering with honors.
For Stephen, working with a client is about more than just providing
legal services; it’s about getting to the heart of a client’s needs, not just
for today but for the future, as well, and that means forming long-lasting
relationships built on trust. Clients who work with him can expect direct,
honest legal advice – whether the news is favorable for the client or not – dependability
and responsiveness. Perhaps most importantly of all, Stephen can break down the
complexities of patent law for his clients, explaining legal strategies and a course
of action in simple, easy-to-grasp language.
A regular blogger about patent law issues who often tweets on
intellectual property issues, Stephen has served as a guest speaker at events
and on radio programs, discussing such topics on U.S. and international patent
practice.
